Meet 21 Year Old Cameron John Wagenius; the soldier who pleaded guilty to leaking government official phone records. The two counts that he plead guilty to were tied to actions he took under the alias KiberphantOm.
Think I’m being too harsh? Let’s take a look at some of Cameron’s internet searches:
Search: Can hacking be treason?
Are you seriously asking if hacking the sitting President and Vice President is treason? Is that your actual question?
Search: US military personnel defecting to Russia
So, you’ve accepted that you’re a traitor and now you’re considering going full Snowden?
Search: Embassy of Russia - Washington, D.C.
And this is where it gets really concerning. But let’s take a step back—how exactly did they get your search history? You hacked dozens of companies, but didn’t think to research OPSEC first? Never mind. Joining the military, then failing to cover your tracks while hacking Fortune 500 companies and your own government is not the mark of a legendary hacker. 😒
Cameron isn’t KiberphantOm, He’s just Cameron
Life is a series of being who you need to be when you need to be. You’re being yourself but versions of yourself that best fit whatever space you’re in. Everyday there is a security researcher, hacker (not a bad term, you may be confusing it with cybercriminal) that finds a treasure trove of data and they CHOOSE NOT TO FUCK OVER MILLIONS OF PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY DIDN’T GET PAID.
Through out this whole ordeal we must remember this is almost a 1 for 1 of what if Justin Bieber joined the Army and became a hacker:
